Pictured is the National Monument of Costa Rica, located in Downtown San Jose in the National Park. The statue was erected on Costa Rica’s Independence Day (September 15) in 1895. It depicts five women engaging in combat with two men. The five women represent the five Central American nations that were allied together against Walker (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras) and the two men represent Walker and his filibusters.
