“The War in Nicaragua,” by William Walker himself, was written and published when he returned to the U.S. It was published in 1860, the same year he died. The work retells the entirety of Walker’s time in Nicaragua from 1854 to 1857, starting with background concerning the ongoing political revolution in Nicaragua and ending with his return to the U.S. Throughout the entire work Walker refers to himself in the third person.
Just after the publishing of this work Walker would soon return to Central America to attempt to filibuster again, only to be executed by the Honduran government on September 12, 1860.
