William Frank Stewart was one of William Walker’s men who joined Walker’s army in February of 1857. By this time, Walker was already president of Nicaragua for a number of months and would soon be ending in May of the same year. Stewart recollects his time with Walker’s army from February up to his own departure from Nicaragua in August of 1857. His main goal with this work was to expose the truth on Walker’s Nicaragua, as he felt there was a lot of misinformation back home in the U.S. concerning it.
