C.W. Doubleday, also known as Captain Doubleday, was a prominent member of Walker’s army. He had been involved with Walker’s men in Nicaragua since the beginning in 1854. Doubleday’s work was published more than 25 years after his time there, and retells the events from his own perspective from the moment he arrived in Nicaragua up to Walker’s execution. Similar to William Frank Stewart’s work, Doubleday focuses on exposing the truth of the events that occurred as he also feels that the narrative of Walker in Nicaragua is falsified. In particular, Doubleday expresses in the preface how he detests the word “Filibuster” and Walker’s actions being associated with the word.
